INDIA THE NEXT LEADER IN ANIMATION SAYS CHIEF GUEST FRED WANG CHEUNG YUE
Trivandrum, May 5, 2017 – Toonz Animation Masters Summit 2017 commenced with a bang in Technopark with legends and luminaries from the Global Media & Entertainment Industry landing at Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. This year the summit is celebrating the ‘Passion for Animation’ – the infinite fire of passion that perennially drives to seek higher planes of creative fulfilment.
The two-day summit was inaugurated by industry veteran Mr. Fred Wang Cheung Yue, Hon. Vice President of the China Film Foundation, Director of the Board of the Hong Kong-France Business Partnership and Chairman of Salon Films Group. Mr. Wang who was involved in the production of the film ‘Enter the Dragon’ said, “India has all the ingredients required to become the leader in animation for the media, education and entertainment industry because of the huge creative talent available, distribution network and the vast consumer network.”
“The world is now looking at the East and India has brought Buddhism to the world and has immense creative and talented people at its disposal. India holds leadership position in software sector which is a great advantage. I think the animation industry here needs to focus on creating quality content targeting children from the age of 2 to 7 years in English and local languages as animation provides the necessary ingredients for all-round growth of the children.” He added.
Renowned animation pioneer and Father of Indian Animation, Bhimsain Khurana was honoured by the ‘Legend of Animation’ title at the inaugural ceremony of the Animation Masters Summit by Fred Wang. Bhimsain has 16 National and 7 international awards to his credit, apart from bagging many prestigious popular awards. The “Legend of Animation” honour is bestowed upon Bhimsain Khurana for his all-round contribution towards entertainment industry. Mr P Jayakumar, CEO, Toonz Animation thanked him for his contribution to the industry and the world.
At the subsequent sessions Masters, Ms Lauren Glaubach, Head of Programming, You Tube Family & Learning and Amy Blair, Programming Manager, YouTube Kids USA made presentations They said animation helps building communities and young new story tellers are emerging daily to share their memories and enriching kids. The animation industry is a role model and provides overall growth and development to family and the children. Mr Keyur Patel was introduced by Dr Avaneesh Muraleedharan. Mr Patel, Chairman & Founder, Fuse Global is one of the most dynamic visionaries in the digital world. He has led the investments and turnarounds for brands like Inktomi and Maxtor. Incubated and ran more than 160 successful companies including web vibe, NDTV, IndiaTV, Phoenix Software, Amazon, Netflix, Yahoo, PayPal, Lions Gate, Fabric, etc. Fuse Global is one of the largest private funds with U S $ 29 billion in assets. A long time TV and Film investor in Hollywood including films like Metrix, Lord of Rings, etc. He said India will produce a big budget and hit full time animation story within the coming five years. He said Kerala has a wealth of amazing stories and we should bring it to the audience to cash it. Other masters to share their views include Anjum Rajabali – Bollywood Screenwriter, Ronojoy Chakraborty – Sony YAY!, Shrikumar Menon – Founder CMD & Creative Head of PUSH Integrated Communications, Director of ‘Mahabharat’ the 1000 crore budget movie, John McKenna – One Animation, Dong-Su Jung, ICONIX, Korea.
The two day summit will conclude with the announcement of the winners of the Flying Elephant Animation Contest. The winners will be declared in four categories: Animation Short films, Animation TV & Feature Series, Live Action Short Films, and Short film-Student Category.
Mr G Vijaya Raghavan, Founding CEO, Technopark, who also graced the inaugural event mentioned that there are animation companies which have come and gone, but Toonz Animation is one company which started in Technopark with around 20 creative talents have continued with their growth journey and the Summit provides an avenue for the youngsters to meet with luminaries of the industry. Mr Hrishikesh Nair CEO talked about how animation has become a very important input for the media, education and entertainment industry and that he felt proud to have Toonz Animation operating from Technopark for the last two decades.
