Chief Minister dedicates Cyberpark’s first IT Building – ‘Sahya’ to the State – First Mobile Incubator in the State in Cyberpark in 10,000 sq. ft. area
Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today inaugurated the state-of-the-art first IT building of Cyberpark Kozhikode – ‘Sahya’. Sahya is a 2,88,000 sq.ft G+4 storeyed IT building built in 5 acres of SEZ land in Cyberpark.
Inaugurating the building, Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Today is a very auspicious day for Malabar with Cyberpark getting operational with its first IT building and paving a new way for IT growth in the region. Kozhikode is already a hot location with the best institutions like IIM, NIT, industrial parks, medical college and other leading institutions. With the new building inaugurated we are providing significant boost for the development of IT in the region. The new building will provide employment to over 2500 IT professionals and throw open over 7500 indirect job opportunities. The LDF government had promised to create one crore sq.ft IT space during its tenure, and in the first year itself we have delivered 17.5 sq.ft IT facility with the inauguration of Sahya in Kozhikode, Jyothirmaya in Infopark and the remaining in different IT parks.”
“Kerala Government is committed towards the use and acceptance of technology by each person of the State. In the past year, many people-friendly IT initiatives have been implemented in the State where the most important was the setting of the K-fone project – declaring Internet as a basic right of the people of Kerala. State-wide optic fibre cable is being laid for faster internet connectivity and this Rs. 1000 crore project will be completed within next 18 months. The government is also planning to set up 1000 wi-fi hotspots and the tendering process for this will be completed in a couple of months.” He said.
The Chief minister also announced the allotment of 10000 square feet space for Mobile app incubator facility by Kerala start up mission in association with Internet and Mobile association of India [ IAMAI] . The objective of this incubator is to support entrepreneurs and startups who are interested in developing world class Mobile Apps and incubator will support in training mentoring by the executive of Google, Face Book , Paytm etc..The Kozhikode will be the third incubator being set up by IAMAI after bangalore and Gurgoan.
Developing Malabar region in to a major business hub is a dream project of Kerala Government and the work on Kannur International Airport is progressing very fast. The works on the IT parks in Kannur and Kasargode are also progressing at a good pace assured the Chief Minister.
The Ground floor of Sahya has 6 units ready to occupy ranging from 25 seaters to 71 seaters. Presently the admin block of Cyberpark had been hosting four IT companies of which Aufait Technologies have already taken space in the new building. The other charter companies of Sahya are Vinam IT and Mini Minimalister. The first floor has been developed as the Smart Business Centre with plug and play facility with 19 units ranging from 12 seats to 42 seaters. The top three floors will be leased out as warm shell spaces.
Cyberpark is being developed in 43.5 acres by KSITIL which already houses the administrative office – The Park Centre that was inaugurated in 2013. With the new IT building, Kerala IT will have a large amount of IT space ready for companies who are planning to set up their business in North Kerala region. Kozhikode is also home to UL Cyberpark which has an IT building of 5 lakh sq.ft with 24 companies operational from there. Kerala government manages all the infrastructure of UL Cyberpark as well. Calicut Forum for IT, a group formed by 40 IT companies based out of Kozhikode are also very active in promoting Kozhikode as the next IT destination. CaFIT is promoting research and development of products and services in emerging technologies especially mobile technology from the region.
“One of Kerala Government’s major thrust area in IT is to promote the Kozhikode as the next IT destination like it has been successful with Technopark and Infopark. For us, the priority is to make this first IT building fully occupational. We are receiving lot of enquiries from companies in the region and also companies based especially in the GCC countries for space in Cyberpark. The basic facilities like robust infrastructure, excellent digital connectivity, in-house power distribution, 100% power back up with an ecofriendly environment is all in place for companies to start operations.” Said IT Parks CEO, Hrishikesh Nair.
“We are in the process of creating additional 6000 sq.ft of IT built-up space for startup companies as second phase development. We are also working on creating recreational facilities to the IT employees in the park and also facilitate cloud service, wi-fi in the campus. To manage the natural resources, we are setting up Solar Roof Top panels, Rain water harvesting supply system and effective waste management system. Once 50% of the IT building is occupations, we shall initiate design and execution of the next IT building.” He added.
Kozhikode has been ranked 2nd Best city in India to reside in terms of residence, earnings and investments by Indicus Analytics and ASSOCHAM has ranked it 11th among Tier 2 cities in job creation. The city is acknowledged as a centre for global trade and commerce and the presence of premium educational institutions like IIM Kozhikode, Calicut University, IISR, NIT-Calicut has placed Kozhikode as a prime destination for quality education.
Kozhikode is well connected by road, rail with major centres of trade, industry and education such as Mangalore, Mysore, and Bangalore, in Karnataka and Coimbatore, Trichy and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Kozhikode International Airport operates more than 50 daily flights connecting US, UK, GCC in the international circuit in addition to major Indian cities including Trivandrum and Kochi. The government is also planning on adding more flights from leading IT destinations like Bangalore and Hyderabad to Kozhikode to boost the IT growth in this region.
