CSI-Golden Jubilee e-Governance Awards Announced
Trivandrum: As part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations, Computer Society of India, Trivandrum Chapter had initiated to recognize and benchmark e-Governance excellence across various departments under the theme: ‘e-Governance Excellence for the benefit of Common Man’.
Kerala Public Service Commission’s Thulasi – a one-time registration application to automate the recruitment process for Kerala PSC, developed in FOSS Platform is a single window for candidates to interact with KPSC which helps them to create their profile, view the posts available based on the profile and check the status of his applications. Shaju George Kerala PSC Secretary received the award from Shri Ramesh Chennithala, Hon. Minister of Home and Vigilance, the Chief Guest of the event.
E-Treasury by Department of Treasuries, Govt. of Kerala was chosen as the runner up. Treasury Department now receives payment electronically. With the 24×7 facility citizens can make the payment any time, even personal taxes on behalf of the firm, company and others.
The e-Governance Sustenance Award was awarded to e-Transport by Motor Vehicles Department for their continuous efforts in ensuring successful use of the application and ease to ensure services to the citizens. “Sustenance Award has been instituted by CSI to recognize the continued effort and enthusiasm put forth by organizations which were in the forefront in adopting e-Governance implementations. Motor Vehicles Department was one of the first organizations in Kerala which implemented computerization way back in the 90’s and continue to do so with the same enthusiasm and reaching out to citizens with ease of service. ” said Satish Babu, Chairman Award Committee while declaring the awards.
Two Special Jury Awards were announced. Public Works Department’s PRICE – Project Implementation and Cost Estimation, a total solution for estimate preparation and online approval for the work undertaken by PWD. Being a department spending a huge amount for infrastructure development, PWD needed an excellent costing system to prepare accurate and reliable cost estimates for its projects. PRICE simplifies this complex time consuming exercise and the project estimate is prepared within minutes along with the proposals.
Kerala Water Authority’s e-Abacus (Enhanced Accounting, Billing and Collection Utility System) that enables payment of water bills online was also chosen for the Special Jury Award.
IDEAS – Information and Data Exchange Advanced System by NIC, Kerala was recognized for their work on Open Source with the CSI-ICFOSS Open Source Award.
Most of the departments of Govt. of Kerala have implemented e-services to make access to government services easier but the awareness to citizens have not reached to the grass root levels of the society. Kerala State IT Mission has taken concerted efforts to reach out to people of Kerala and promote the various e-government initiatives of Kerala government. CSI recognized these efforts by presenting them with the CSI-Valiant e-Governance Promotion Award.
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan, Head, Department of Economics, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam was honoured with the CSI-Valiant e-Governance Promoter Award for her active involvement in promoting e-Governance literacy among students and the community. The team compiled the URLs of more the 100 useful websites Vivara Nidhi, a citizen’s handbook on e-Governance that handholds the public in their efforts to access 23 crore e-governance services and e-Mithram, a handbook for students introducing them to e-governance were also published.
Devika S of TKM College of Engineering, Soorya V Nair, Govt. Engineering College, Barton Hill; Ruhin Mary Saji, Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Alapuzha; and Gowthan M, SCT College of Engineering, Triandrum were awarded with the CSI Student Excellence Awards for their excellent academic performance.
P H Kurian IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of IT delivered the keynote address at the awards ceremony. KINFRA MD, Dr. G C Gopala Pillai; K Mohammed Y Safirulla IAS, Director Kerala State IT Mission; M Krishnamurthi, Chairman Valiant Technologies Group, UAE; Dr. Jayasankar Prasad, Director, ICFOSS & CEO, Kerala Startup Mission; Anoop P Ambika, Secretary, GTech, Technopark graced the event. CSI, Trivandrum Chapter Chairman Sreekanth P Krishnan welcomed the dignitaries and Secretary Vishnu Kumar delivered the Vote of Thanks
