TRIVANDRUM TO BECOME THE KNOWLEDGE HUB OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES WITH TECHNOCITY GOING LIVE – HRISHIKESH NAIR, CEO, KERALA IT PARKS

TP Phase 3

Trivandrum, the State Capital, will be elevated to the status of Knowledge Hub of the country with Technocity going on stream where companies engaged in emerging technologies will set up their ventures in the Knowledge City campus in addition to major IT/ITeS companies according to Hrishikesh Nair, CEO, Kerala IT Parks. The new generation emerging technology activities that will come up in the Centre for Excellence in the Knowledge City include Block Chain, Cyber Security, Cognitive Science, Mobility, Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. The Centre of Excellence at the Knowledge City will be developed with Academy – Industry collaboration to produce state-of-the-art technology based on latest research and development. Technocity will also provide world class IT infrastructure and support services for Start-ups, Small & Medium IT Companies in addition to global IT/ITeS Companies. With the Technocity project going on stream immediately, Trivandrum will become the Knowledge Hub of the Country while Kerala will become the Digital State, the State Government is in the process of achieving this objective, said Mr Hrishikesh Nair.

The master plan for the Technocity project is ready and the total land area of 423 acres is in possession. The design for the first building is ready and will be completed and companies can commence operation by 2019 according to Hrishikesh Nair. The work on road network, electrical distribution, water supply and other basic infrastructure are in the process of development. In order to attract more global companies, the land lease rates are reduced to 33% from the current level, explained Mr Nair.

Technopark Phase 3

The largest IT Building in the country, the twin towers “Ganga” and “Yamuna” with 1 million sq. ft. area has been allotted to major IT/ITeS Companies and is full. The Boston based Taurus Investment has confirmed that they will be commencing their Taurus Downtown project in 20 acres of land allotted to them immediately, which will have one of the most modern commercial campuses and IT Townships coming up in the Phase 3 campus. This will significantly improve the availability of space for IT/ITeS companies and others.

Phase 1 campus

The traffic to the Phase 1 campus is getting uncontrollable with more than 60,000 IT/ITeS professionals moving in and out of the campus, said Hrishikesh Nair. Since the NHAI is taking more time than anticipated to finalise the design for the flyover in front of Technopark and the entry to the Park, it is not advisable to construct the “Shria” building which will add more traffic to the campus and therefore, the construction of “Shria” is being temporarily put on hold. Once the road network is completed, the work on “Shria” will restart. This is why the Government is now putting all its efforts to implement the Technocity project immediately.

The companies and employees of IT/ITeS companies in Technopark are looking at the Trivandrum metro with very high expectations. This will be a huge support for the employees of companies in the existing Technoparks and Technocity Project and will provide necessary boost for becoming the Knowledge Hub of the country.
